What kind of CD do I need to install an operating system?

I bought an old dell laptop computer model # D610 with no Operating system. I'm quite illiterate about computers. Would somebody out there tell me what kind of an operating CD i need to buy to install my operating system. I don't have much money so I'm looking to buy a cd maybe even used one from Amazon or Ebay.
